Toti:ltcha - School Strategy for 2021-2022

September 3, 2021

As we begin to enter into September, I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome back to all to what we hope will be a wonderful school year. As we look forward to the opportunities in the weeks and months ahead, I must again extend a sincere thanks to our staff for getting us through last year. What we accomplished in British Columbia, and particularly here in Abbotsford, was truly amazing. Our society owes a debt of gratitude to the teachers, support staff, principals and managers who pulled together to care for our students when they needed us most.

Toti:ltcha – School Strategy for 2021-2022

Over the last week, our teams have been working to finalize our local plans for our school district based on the guidelines provided by the government. I am pleased to share with you an updated version of Toti:ltcha. This document will continue to serve as our guide to addressing the health, safety, teaching and learning needs required to fulfil our vision of providing a world-class, innovative, and individualized educational experience for each student.

Vaccination Clinics

The evidence has shown us that vaccines are the most effective way to reduce the risk of COVID-19. People who are 12 and over are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated (i.e., receive two doses) against COVID-19 to protect themselves and those around them – including those who are not eligible to be vaccinated.

In support of public health initiatives and reducing barriers to access, Fraser Health will be using space from select secondary schools to offer vaccination clinics over the next two weeks. We encourage interested parents with eligible children to visit the clinic in your geographical area, as they will be open until 5 pm each day.

September 30th: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On August 3rd, the B.C. Government formally recognized September 30th as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in alignment with legislation passed by the federal government in June. As part of this formal recognition, the Abbotsford School District will be closed to all students and staff on Thursday, September 30th, 2021. Families are encouraged to make amendments to their calendars to reflect this date change.

Ongoing Communications

BC’s Provincial Health Officer and the Minister of Education will continue to monitor developments around the COVID-19 pandemic. Ongoing updates will continue to be posted on our website.

I hope that you will enjoy the remaining days of summer, and we look forward to welcoming you back to our schools on Tuesday, September 7th.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Godden
Superintendent of Schools
